It is a legal requirement to have a Fire Risk Assessment. Under the 2005 Fire Safety Order the Fire Risk Assessment replaced the Fire Certificate as the key legal document covering fire safety in the workplace.

It assesses the risks, safety precautions and procedures against established standards and produces an action plan for dealing with issues which need improving.
